Rigidcore is a building material
composed of a tetrahedral-octahedral
honeycomb lattice

Rigidcore Group is a development stage company seeking to commercialize a honeycomb core material which is an alternative to traditional hexagonally-based honeycomb structures. The company holds the foundational patent for the means of molding this new core structure from a variety of inputs including plastics, aluminum and paper-based materials. It is based on a tetrahedral-octahedral truss which can be used along side of or in lieu of traditional honeycomb and other core materials depending upon the application.

It features linear, parallel walls arranged on three planes to form tetrahedra interspersed with octahedra. The resulting tessellation allows for the disbursement of force into all three sets of parallel planes. The underlying tetrahedral-octahedral truss is inherently rigid and stable in contrast to standalone honeycomb which handles certain forces well but others with more difficulty.

If your application requires a lightweight core material with inherent rigidity and the ability to handle diverse forces applied from multiple directions, we would like to hear from you. For more information, contact Vice President, Jack Bingham at jbingham@rcgrp.net.
